The Power of the Wish

A brief intro:

The power of the wish is the most basic form of magick. It is also one of the most dangerous. A wish that is ill-defined or that comes from ego, hate, revenge, etc.. can and will come back to haunt you (to say the least). Wishing should be done only after careful consideration of all possible reasons and then only if it is a true need, not a want or desire. To wish for the love of someone specific is a disaster (and very bad karma) in the making since you are interfering with that person's free will and the threads of Fate. A wish for money should be a true need and only made after a careful consideration of expenses vs. income since the Powers That Be don't consider materialism a necessity. However, even after all of this has been said, a wish can be a very positive, fulfilling experience. Just keep in mind that you must define the wish completely but don't ask for specific people or places or things (i.e. I wish to run my own candle shop NOT I wish to own and run the candle shop at 333 Main Street). Put yourself in the place of The Powers That Be, be polite not demanding. Also be sure to define what your reasons are, within what period of time this is to take place in, and what you wish the outcome to be. To be entirely safe, check with the Fates before making your wish. At the very least, run it past four simple rules: Truth, Trust, Love and Giving. If it violates one, reconsider the wish. Enough said, let us begin.....

Supplies needed:

  • 1 seven knob candle (not seven day) which can be purchased at your local pagan / new age store  <<you can substitute 7 mini candles which are sold at nearly every pagan/new age store>>

  • 3 sticks of incense, preferably protection or prosperity

  • Bath salts - enough for three baths, preferably protection or prosperity flavored salts.

  • paper & pen

  • dandelion - fresh or dried (optional, folklore states that dandelion is used in promoting effective communication).

  • A dish to place the candle on (they drip heavily), at least dinner plate size

This spell needs to take place over eight consecutive days so plan to set aside the time. This work is best prior to the full moon with the last day falling on the full moon unless the dark moon is appropriate to your wish. Before beginning the spell itself, (this begins day one) write down your wish on a piece of loose leaf paper, including all reasons, etc.... Fold it in half, place it under your pillow before bed. Read it the following day, be sure that it says everything it should and that you are still comfortable with the wish. When you are ready, begin the spell.

This is now day two. Start by drawing a warm bath, add to it 1/3 of the package of bath salts. During your bath, focus on the wish, the reasons, etc.. Visualize it coming true. Do not soak for more than 15 minutes. After your bath, wear something comfortable. Set up an area that can remain undisturbed for the next seven days. Place once stick of incense in the burner behind the candle. Be sure the candle is on the plate. Take the paper you have written the wish on and place it under your candle plate. Next take some of the dandelion (which aids in communication with higher beings) and sprinkle it around the candle but on the plate. Relax yourself, take several deep breaths, and focus on your wish in its entirety. Light the candle letting only one knob burn.

Repeat everyday until the candle is extinguished, excluding the bath and sprinkling of dandelion. Repeat the bath on day 5 and on the last day (day eight). When the last knob is almost burned, burn the paper (s) containing the wish in a separate dish or bowl. Place the rest of the dandelion in the bowl when the ashes have cooled. Take them outside and blow them away while visualizing the wish going towards the heavens. After the candle has been extinguished bury or burn (in a fire large enough to destroy) the remaining wax.
