This recipe came from The Great Magical
Papyrus in Paris**. First will be presented the
original and then I will give modern-day equivalents to
the materials needed.
On a piece of veil from a
stone Harpocrates, the magician, who identifies
him/herself with Horus, writes with an ink made of myrrh
the name of the son of Isis and Osiris:
Orsoronophris
Then take the plant called sempervivum,
roll it in the cloth and tie it with seven threads of
the linen of Anubis. This amulet is then worn around the
neck during the duration of the journey and/or ritual.
Equivalents:
- Veil from a stone Harpocrates -
cleansed / purified muslin canvas
- Ink - add two to three drops of
myrrh essential oil to black ink
- Plant - pompous grass (found in
most greenhouses)
- Threads - wool threads (it
should be made of a specific type of animal but
since I have never seen thread of such an animal in
the US, wool will do)
*I remember that I found this on a website a long time
ago but I don't remember where.
**The page from which I took this listed
the source as the "magical Greek book of Paris (?)." I believe the
actual source of this material is "The Great Magical Papyrus in Paris."
This material goes by many names. It was found in 1828 in Thebes.
It was one book among many found at the site. All the books are
believed to have been written by the same person and are dated between
250-350ce. This text was written in both Greek and Coptic.
When I have a chance I will attempt to find this amulet within the text.
