The links to the left lead to incantations,
spells, amulets, etc from historical
sources. Some of them may be cross listed elsewhere.
Please use caution with these
rites. These are from antiquity and may include the sacrifice
of animals, bloodletting, and other such activities. Do NOT
harm another creature or even yourself for one of these rites.
It is always a good idea to read the history of such spells before
attempting any of them. Just because they are historical does
not mean that they are effective. If you do decide to attempt
one, substitute the animal sacrifice with cakes or candies in the
shape of the animal in question.
Also be aware that many
ingredients in historical spells and formulas aren't as simple as
they appear. In an ancient Invocation to Apollo (which I will
provide in the future) calls for "wolf's eye" The invocation comes from Egypt which has no wolves.
However, there is a plant named Wolf's Eye which is most likely what
was meant. Dr. Fritz Graf who explained this rite to us in
class said that scholars were unsure what was meant another
ingredient - 'wolf's head'. I believe this may have been a fossil
of some sort. For instance, a 'horse's head' is actually a
fossilized Myophorella [Trigonia] hudlestoni. While I have not
come across any information on a fossil who's folkloric name was
'wolf's head' my research in that area has just begun. Please
keep this kind of information in mind if you decide to perform any
ancient rites.
