Myth - Legend - Fact

As we begin our journey into the realm of the vampyre, please bear in mind that just like anything else, there are many different types of vampyres. There is no universal definition or stereotype, each person (vampyre) is different in their practice, methods, and manners. The links to the left lead to many of the different historical vampyre references as well as some modern day definitions and examples.

In regards to some of the references you will find, I have included headings describing blood, bats, and those tribes and cultures that include the eating of the dead in their religious practices.  I believe that when looking at vampyre history, it is important to separate fact from fantasy.  It is also important to see where some of the roots of the modern myths of vampyres had their rather innocent beginnings.  There are also a series of articles I started writing for the Vampyre Research Society on Vampyric Deities.  Those will include information from the sections as well as new information that has not been added to the sections.  Currently there is only one article but I hope to add additional ones in the next year or so.
