European Myths

Julius Caesar, in his book "The Conquest of Gaul" gave an account of unicorns. He claimed that unicorns lived in the Hercynian Forest of Germany - a vast thickly wooded area extending from the Danube River to Czechoslovakia. It included the modern day Black Forest. "There is an ox shaped like a stag, with a single horn in the middle of its forehead between the ears. This horn sticks up taller and strighter than those of ht enaimals we know, and at the top it branches out like a man's hand or a tree.".
