Sumiel

Other Names / Variants: n/a

Sumiel - In Voltaire, "Of Angels, Genii, and Devils," one of the leaders of the fallen angels.  Voltaire quotes Enoch as his source, but no close equivalent for Sumiel can be found in the Enoch books, unless Voltaire had in mind Sammael or Simapesiel (q.v.).  The name Sumiel is found inscribed on an oriental charm (kamea) for warding off evil.  [Rf. Schrire, Hebrew Amulets.]  (a)
