Meaning of Name: "destroyer"

Mashit(h) - An angel appointed over the death of children. [Rf. Ginzberg, The Legends of the Jews.]  In The Zohar he is one of 3 demons in gehinnom (Hell) who punish those who sin by idolatry, murder, and incest.  The other 2 demons are Af and Hemah (q.v.).  In Midrash Tehillim (commentary on Pslams), Mashit is one of 5 angels of punishment whom Moses encounters in Heaven.  (a)
