| WODEN:
Northern European myth features Woden (precursor of Odin, head of the Norse
pantheon), god of war and guide to the underworld. He was a powerful
deity who brought suffering and death to his soldiers and is frequently
compared to the Roman god Mercury, a sinister being. Woden is depicted
with a spear and is symbolized by a wolf or raven.
His fall from grace and banishment to the
underworld bear similarities to the Christian tale of LUCIFER, the beloved
angel who rebels against God and is sent to hell.

WODAN:
Wodan (Voden, Votan, Woden, Wotan, Wuotan) is the Germanic equivalent of the
Norse god ODIN. He is the supreme deity of the pantheon and ruler of
paradise. Wednesday is Woden's day, and those who die on this day
receive special favor in the afterlife. Brave and virtuous souls could
be elevated to the "Palace of Wodan" after death, where they would be
rewarded for their goodness. (p)
