Ugbogiorinmwin is the seven-headed lord of the underworld according to the
myths of the Bini of Nigeria. He is a fierce monster who breathes
fire, smoke, and blood and who has power over souls in the spirit world.
One legend describes the tragic journey of
Igioromi, a rambunctious youth who travels to the underworld to show off his
wrestling skills. In the land of the dead, Igioromi throws several
spirits to the ground, killing them a second time. He then challenges
Ugbogiorinmwin to a fight to the finish. But Ugbogiorinmwin revives
the fallen spirits with a magic potion, then effortlessly crushes the boy.
He orders to the souls to gather herbs and spices to cook Igioromi's corpse
for a communal feast. (o)
