| OLODUMARE:
Olodumare is the underworld deity of the Yoruba of Nigeria. He is
overlord of deceased souls and ruler of the land of the dead. Spirits
deemed evil are tortured in the next world by hideous beasts who taunt and
torment the damned. For condemned souls, the torments are both
physical and psychological.
Olodumare is aided in his supernatural
tasks by OBATALA, who judges each soul at the time of death. Obatala
has the power to damn a soul to hell or escort it to paradise.
