Barbartos - An
angel formerly of the order of virtues. "This fact,"
reports Spence in An Encyclopedia of Occultism, "was
proved after infinite research."(1) In Hell,
where Barbatos now dwells, he is a Great Duke, ruling over 30 legions of
spirits. He "giveth
understanding of the song of birds, knows the past and can
foretell the future." He may be invoked in magical
rites, and he will appear gladly, but only when the sun is in
the sign of Sagittarius. For Barbatos' sigil, see Wierus,
Pseudo-Monarchia; Waite, The Book of Black
Magic and of Pacts (p.108)(2); and The
Lemegeton.
