Arioch

Meaning of Name: "Fierce Lion"

Arioch - a demon a vengeance, a follower of Satan, a fallen angel (as in Paradise Lost VI, where he is overthrown by the angel Abdiel during the war in Heaven).  In Nash, Pierce Penniless, reference is made to "the great Arioch that is termed the spirit of revenge." [Rf. Schwab, Vocabulaire de l'Angelologie; De Plancy, Dictionnaire Infernal, 1863 ed., where Arioch is pictured as the bat-winged demon of vengeance; The Ancient's Book of Magic.] (a)

Arioch: Demon of vengeance, according to some demonologists.  He is different from Alastor, and occupies himself only with vengeance in particular cases where he is employed for that purpose. (b)
