German Myths

Green haired maidens, called nixies, were said to haunt bodies of fresh water.  Nixies had the power to transform themselves into old crones.  On market days they would often wander the market and attempt to lure people to dangerous waters and drown them.  It was necessary for a nixie to kill at least one person a year in order to survive.
