NOTE

Genus of 40 species. Robust, striking architectural plant that is fairly slow-growing. Leaves are spine-tipped. Flowers in Summer followed by large, round orange-red fruit. Plant in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. The mature form has an outline of an inside-out umbrella.
